My Anime Obsession

I guess I wouldn't call it an obsession. The people who obsess over Anime usually lack basic social skills, refrain from proper bathing schedules, spend far too much money on boxed sets/action figures/posters, and so on. You know the type. I guess I have a diet-obsession: none of the flavor, none of the junk. Interperet that as you want.

With my recent acquisition of digital cable and the bundled DVR, I can catch episodes of late-night anime on Adult Swim without having to stay up to 1 AM every night. It works out well.

I've been watching Paranoia Agent recently, and it is very strange. I like strange. It's not quite as goofy as FLCL, but wacky nonetheless. The story jumps dramatically in presentation and cast every episode, and I kind of jumped in during the last two character introduction episodes and am being pushed into the flashbacks-make-everything-fit-together episodes. I want to know what's going on but I'll find out later. The plot revolves around "little slugger" who is terrorizing Tokyo with his gold rollerblades and bat, attacking people. I might be able to give a better impression after I've seen the entire series in order.

I know this post was rather worthless and most people reading won't care. I just did it to piss Jesse off.

Bryan Boitano

In history today, we discussed the attempted mongol invasions on Japan. These didn't work mostly because of the expense of sailing ships and the two typhoons that wiped out there army. However, I couldn't really think about this that much.

The mongol leader during this period was Kublai Kahn. This immediately made me think of the line:

and when Bryan Boitano built the pyramids,
He beat up Kublai Kahn.

This then kept that song in my head for the remainder of the day. Best. Musical. Ever.

Serenity

This Friday marks the release of the highly-anticipated movie, Serenity. It looks to be delicious candy for my eyes and a burst of adrenaline to my sci-fi side.

However, I'm planning to be double-dating with Jordan and Molly this Friday. I don't know if there are any concrete plans, but maybe we could ditch the girls for a couple hours to catch this flick. I don't think the girls would like it.

American Beauty

I watched "American Beauty" with Katie last night. I don't know how I managed to avoid watching it for so long. It was amazing.

I think the whole "pedophilia" thing kept me from it for so long. It kept me from watching a movie starring Keven Spacey, one of my favorite actors. It kept me from watching a character-driven plot that starts with everyone hiding behind facades and eventually making sense of their lives.

I recommend it for anyone who would ever watch any kind of movie. Go see it.

But, you probably already have.

Timestamp confusion

I know the first post on this blog is from 2003, but I have an excuse.

I got a blog then because I wanted to try it. I didn't like it. The interface is not suited to how I like things. I like making my own.

Now that my poor website is down, I must resort back to this.

I have received a high demand for me to have some kind of website running. I still want to rebuild my own site, but I guess it will take a delay while I use Blogger for a while.

I hope you like that I'm actually attempting to provide some more useless text for you to waste time reading. Something is better than nothing at all.
